Toyota Replacement Keys - Toyota has a few different types of keys:

1. A mechanical key (plain metal Toyota key). Usually will be found on older Toyota models, but sometimes on new, inexpensive Toyota models.

2. Transponder chip key. Most Toyota keys from 1998 and up are equipped with a transponder system, which means that only a programmed Toyota key for a specific car will be able to start it. Most Toyota keys can be programmed with a simple programming tool through the OBDII, however, some Toyota models, in the case that all keys are lost, can only have new replacement keys by reprogramming the ECU.
